Who builds these

Neighbors in Flagstaff, Arizona, giving away what they know how to make.

Nobody here is paid. The websites are built by volunteers who already have a trade, and who decided that some of what they make should belong to the town instead of being sold to it. One person has done most of the building so far.

David Zatara

Engineer · Data scientist · Product builder

David began on drill sites as a geotechnical engineer, ran a marketing agency for eleven years, lined up clean-water data for UNICEF across fifteen countries, and fixed how work moved between teams at a telecom company. Since 2024 he has built the websites in this library with the volunteers here, each one started by a question a neighbor asked.

His story, and the case studies

How the work gets done

Four habits, each learned on a job before this one. Each one now shows in a website you can open.

  1. 1 · Learned on drill sites

    Read what's underneath

One thin tube of soil has to speak for a whole hillside. So before trusting a number, ask who got counted and who got missed.

  2. 2 · Learned running an agency

Do the job before you teach it

Never hand off a job you haven't done yourself. Do it, write the steps down, then let go.

  3. 3 · Learned fixing operations

Watch the handoff, not the people

Every team did its job and work still went missing. The problem lives in the space between people.

  4. 4 · Learned here

Start from the person, not the product

Every site opens with a sentence a real person would say, like "We just got a diagnosis," and gives one next step.

What runs through every site

Numbers you can check

Every number names who counted it and when. Where there is math, every step is shown.

Built so it can't quietly break

Content lives in plain files checked against one set of rules on every build. No database to lose, no form that can take a site down.

Usable at 3 a.m.

Big text, calm pages, nothing to sign up for, and nothing that leaves your device. Most of the sites also speak Spanish.
